Jenny Holzer

(Ohio, Gallipolis, 1950) Jenny Holzer Nel 1972 completa i suoi studi di pittura e incisione presso l’Università dell’Ohio e successivamente inizia gli studi di master presso la Rhode Island School of Design di Providence. Durante questo periodo, ha iniziato a lavorare con le parole e il linguaggio, rendendoli parte del suo lavoro. Il suo lavoro mira a rinnovare molte delle idee dell’arte tradizionale, soprattutto nel contesto dello spazio pubblico. La scrittura è sempre alla base del processo creativo, utilizzando le proprie parole o collegandole ad altre opere, installazioni o proiezioni. Le parole vengono visualizzate su tabelloni elettronici, stampate su poster e magliette, scolpite su panchine di pietra, targhe di marmo e da giardino e stampate su medaglie di bronzo e argento. Il suo lavoro appare anche su cartelloni pubblicitari, giornali e siti web e viene visualizzato tramite proiezione laser o xeno sulle facciate degli edifici, sulle colline o sull’acqua.

Jenny Holzer was born in 1950 in Gallipolis, Ohio (USA). In 1972 she completed her studies in painting and printmaking at Ohio University and later began master’s studies at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. During this time, she began working with words and language, making them part of her work. Her work aims to renew many of the ideas of traditional art, especially in the context of public space. Writing is always the basis of the creative process, using her own words or linking them to other works, installations or projections. Words are displayed on electronic billboards, printed on posters and T-shirts, carved on stone benches, marble and garden plaques, and printed on bronze and silver medals. Her work also appears on billboards, newspapers and websites and is displayed by laser or xenon projection on building facades, hillsides or water.
